About this Case Study
Are you tired of hearing inspiring talks about how to drive agile cultural transformation in your organisation?
Then come and hear Umer give an inspiring talk about how to drive agile cultural transformation in your organisation!
In this (somewhat) interactive case study, Umer will unpack the transformation taking place at News UK by exploring the challenges being faced and the approaches being adopted to build a successful agile culture in a global, multi-channel media organisation.
Umer will showcase real examples from across News UK Technology that demonstrate how he and his colleagues have focused on instilling agile values in order to build a delivery environment that is the envy of the technology industry. Honestly.
If that wasn’t intriguing enough, Umer will also be answering a question that has plagued humanity since the dawn of time - what was agile before Agile was agile?
About the Speaker
Umer is an Agile Programme Manager at News UK and is responsible for leading delivery of its Data Technology programme.
Umer was originally training to be a corporate lawyer with a magic circle law firm before making the natural and obvious transition to project and programme management. He earned his PM stripes at HMRC on the Civil Service Fast Stream - a graduate scheme designed to create future leaders in Government.
For his sins, Umer was initially responsible for redesigning HMRC’s delivery framework and, subsequently, recreated another waterfall process. He redeemed himself to some extent by later being one of the original eight who led HMRC’s digital and agile transformation from 2013 onwards. By the time Umer left HMRC in 2016, it had grown to five agile delivery centres with over 450 digital specialists working in them.
In 2016, Umer traded one universally-loved organisation for another by joining News UK. He has since matured its Data Technology programme into a truly agile, global offering whilst driving agile transformation across News UK Technology as a whole. A people-over-process person at heart, Umer focuses on driving change through influencing individuals and interactions.
