Delivering agile in a waterfall organisation

A 45 minute Case Study by:

Sarah Slack

Environment Agency/DEFRA

About this Case Study

This is my story of my journey from being a project manager to becoming a delivery manager within a government agency. I will cover the good, the bad and the downright ugly! I'll share experiences of delivering agile successfully in the midst of digital transformation and changing government priorities.

This is both a case study and a short tutorial, where interaction with the participants will be encouraged. I plan to use Twitter polls to engage with participants to pitch the session at the right level and to answer some of the burning questions. The areas I will cover are:

  • the difference between a project manager and a delivery manager
  • getting the right skills and knowledge on the team
  • the delivery manager's role in enabling the service management approach
  • how to forecast finances in agile
