About this Experience Report

Agile IT people call us designers. To the Lean-talking UX crowd, we’re dev folks. It’s our job to bring these disciplines together, to translate research insights into software that people love to use.

Come and hear about our attempts to fuse a user-centred approach to design with agile delivery, including:

  • Tensions between design & development, Lean & Agile, good & fast
  • People getting miffed because that thing you did is their job
  • Getting past buzzwords and building a shared understanding
  • A different perspective on what “cross-functional” means
  • Pragmatic solutions for introducing UX and design into your team
  • Why DesignOps is a thing

About the Speakers

Stu Charlton

Things go much better when people talk with a common language. But words are hard sometimes. Stu & Jon are human APIs at the experience design consultancy, cxpartners, where they provide the interface between design and development, Lean and Agile.

Lots of ideas are generated in a user-centred design company. Jon and Stu find the best way to bring those ideas to life so that other humans can tell them if they're any good, and help their clients turn the best ones into real working products and services.

Stu's title is Design and Development Director. He likes to work in a variety of roles, but is in his element bringing together mixed teams to tackle interesting challenges.

Jon Brace

As Technical Director, Jon champions cutting-edge technology and ideas, and anchors cx in sound software engineering practice.

They have both been doing this for a while, including building the front-end for one the first responsive e-commerce stores.

But the web didn't start in 2011. Combined, they have over 30 years experience working on government and commercial projects for international organisations. During their time at cxpartners they have helped The Office of National Statistics, The Chartered Institute for IT, Zurich and Rightmove.

Stu and Jon lead the design and dev teams at cxpartners – a user experience design consultancy in London and Bristol.
